East Peoria’s Storm Shelter unveils new menu with waterfront dining

When the COVID-19 pandemic slowed down enterprise at bars and dining establishments all through the U.S., Jason Payne and his wife Penny, co-proprietors of The Storm Shelter at EastPort restaurant in East Peoria, applied the time to evaluate their procedure and make a handful of improvements.

“The very first point we did was re-consider our menu,” said Payne “We’ve expanded it (by including) quesadillas and horseshoe sandwiches. The one of a kind new products we have are the mahi-mahi nuggets. We have fresh mahi that we bread in-residence. The mahi fish tacos are tremendous popular, and people are also new to the menu.”

When the Paynes purchased the premises and opened The Storm Shelter in 2019, daughter Paige was not ready to become active in the organization. Two years later, the Paynes have decided she is completely ready to take care of the restaurant and have introduced her on board.
